Brenda Dawson Dove is a photojournalist based in the San Francisco Bay Area. She studied journalism, photography and design at the University of California, Davis. After college, she worked as a reporter for several small California newspapers, often taking photographs to accompany her articles. When she later moved to visual journalism, it was a natural progression, with one informing the other to tell a story.
Today, Brenda finds great satisfaction in creating images that illuminate a story while speaking volumes about the human experience. Her goal is to photograph the moments between moments that speak of hope and humanity, moments that reveal the fragility and resilience of the human spirit in ways that are unusual and distinct. Sometimes she does this by employing a unique angle, capturing a look or gesture or following the action and getting in close during a protest or disaster. In all situations, whether photographing a joyful child, distraught survivor or angry mob, she approaches her subjects with sensitivity and respect.
